Things are not going exactly as planned.  And our first inclination is to bail out, drop anchor, panic, stomp our feet and whine that it’s not fair.  But then we pause, regroup and take a second look at what we have here.  It’s new, it’s different, yet it is exactly what we wanted.  it just didn’t come in the exact package we thought it would come in. We let go of the way we get what we want.  We have faith that what we want, the goal, the object, the result will come to us without stress, without anguish, pain, difficulty, or sacrifice.  What we want comes to us if we have faith in ourselves, and our happiness.  Do you know what I mean?  Let me explain.

Both Tara and I have had unexpected labors.  During my delivery for my baby girl Elizabeth, I had pre-clampsia, which basically meant I had high blood pressure that could cause complications with my baby’s delivery.  I also had to induce the labor because my water had broke earlier and there was a possibility of infection.  Then my baby’s heart rate dropped dangerously low, and I was rushed for an emergency c-section.  My husband nearly passed out in fear.  My family saw me being wheeled away and had no idea what was happening.  This was not the perfect scenario.  This was not what I had pictured in my head.

But my baby girl was delivered at 12:53am April 10, 7lbs 10 oz, and was perfectly healthy. Everything worked out and I was given exactly what I wanted. I felt proud about what I had overcome, happy that my entire labor had only lasted a few hours, and incredibly blessed to have seen such deep felt emotions about me and my baby.  It had not gone as planned.  In fact, I could not have remotely imagined what had played out,  It was not as planned, but as expected.  I had my healthy baby girl in my arms.  That was all that mattered.

Now Tara is waiting for her baby to arrive.  She knows that things don’t always go as planned. But her expectation is clear.  Her baby will be here soon.  Her faith will see to it.  When we feel true happiness about what we want, clarity about the result, the way it comes to being is insignificant, it’s arbitrary.  We can’t control the how.  We can only control the what.  We design our life.  We just have to have faith in the process.

What do you want?  Are you more concerned about the how rather than the what?  Be careful what you are asking for.  Make sure it’s exactly what you want!!
