Bodacious Books
We don’t always have time to read, but when we do, we often like to read something that helps us understand ourselves and the world around us a little better. (And yes, of course, we also like to read a little trash sometimes too.) Below are some of the books we have both read that have had a tremendous impact on us. Please leave a comment about your favorite book!
The Secret-Rhonda Byrne
This is truly a life changing book. It challenges the rules society has imprinted on us about the limited power we have. This book shows you the true power you possess and how to tap into it. It is down to earth and expansive at the same time. A must read!
Eat, Pray, Love-Elizabeth Gilbert
This is a story about a woman whose life has lost its meaning. She has lost herself and is falling into despair. When she hits rock bottom, she has nowhere to go but up. The book is about her journey across continents. In each of the three destinations, she finds pieces of herself and learns that she is control of her own happiness. It’s a really inspiring and feel good book!
Celestine Prophecy-James Redfield
There are many schools of thought concerning how this universe runs itself and how we humans fit into the mix. This book is a fantastic story about a man’s journey into the jungle. As he gets deeper, we learn more and more about where we come from, where we’re going, and how to negotiate life along the way. The ideas in this book were brilliant and common sense at the same time.
7 Spiritual laws of Parenting- Deepak Chopra
This is a short and to the point book. It discusses concrete ways to navigate your children through the challenges and successes of life. It comes from a unique philosophical point of view and concentrates on the language and conversations you can have within your family. It is aimed toward use for children school aged and older, but the ideas are great for me as an adult too.
Try This! Each of the seven laws are linked to a day of the week. So we made a copy of each outlined day and have them posted on our refrigerators.
Power of Now- Echkart Tolle
This book offers you a way to tap into the enormous power you have over your life. It talks about real life situations that we could relate to on a personal level. The book really tries to help you see your true self and tap into your own greatness. It can be a little intense at times, so we recommend reading it in small chunks.
Happy for No Reason-Marci Shimoff
This was an upbeat book filled with inspiring stories and terrific life lessons. The author seemed down to earth. She offered realistic ways to teach yourself how to be “happy for no reason.” Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we could all do that?
What Should I Do With My Life- Pro Bronson
This book is a series of stories he has collected about people who are questioning their place in this world. They are people who feel somewhere inside that there must be more to life than their current situation. We thought the stories and the author’s reflection on them were interesting and inspiring!
The Five People You Meet in Heaven
What a wonderful book! It was not at all what we first expected. It talks about five people that have had a significant influence on his life, some of which he did not even know. It really makes you think about how anyone you meet might have more significance than you will ever know. Maybe everyone is more important than you truly know.
Stop Worrying and Start Living-Dale Carnegie
As two people who have had our own share of excessive worry, we really related to this book. It helps you look at why you worry and break the cycle. The book also guides you from using worry to propel your life, to using a good attitude to bring about a sense of peace in your life. This was another book that had real life application.
Tuesdays with Morrie- Mitch Albom
Power of Positive Thinking- Norman Vincent Peale
This was a great book to read, to jump start having a great attitude. Everyday problems are discussed that you can actually relate. Then the authors helps guide you through how to tackle these issues in a realistic way. You finish the book feeling good and anxious to use your positive attitude in real life.
The Last Lecture-Randy Pausch
